One of the things I would like to do going forward is to make people aware of local events and things to do…today’s post will be the first of hopefully many highlighting how to keep busy in the greater Boston area. If you have an event you would like me to promote in the future feel free to contact me.
First up, this Monday, November 3 is the last day for early bird registration for the Medfield Foundation Angel Run. I have done this local 5k many times and it is a favorite…one of the things I like about it is the long sleeved t-shirt, which you only receive if you do the early bird registration…early bird also gets you the discounted registration fee of $25. This 5k began in honor of Natasha Domeshek, who in 2002 suffered a fatal stroke at the age of eight. Funds raised now support town residents through the Medfield Outreach Program and other Medfield Foundation initiatives. This year the course has changed and is an official 5k…race start is now from the high school instead of Wheelock Elementary School. What makes this race special is the wonderful support from the community, both in terms of participants (many local kids run, as do entire families) and the support along the course…carolers, a bell choir and my personal favorite, the angels made by some of the school kids which line the Elm Street bridge…very special. Post-race cookies, brownies and other treats are home-made by volunteers (you just ran a 5k, you can indulge a bit). If you are looking for a fun, low-key race, I urge you to sign up. Race date is Sunday, December 7 at 2 PM, so there’s still time to get in shape!
Next up is the Friends of the Dover Library Holiday House Tour. Tickets are $35 and are available at the Dover Town Library or by mail. Your ticket allows you to tour four area homes, two of which are currently listed for sale (102 Claybrook and 12 Old Meadow Rd). Catering samples are provided by Chiara Bistro in Westwood, Zebra’s Bistro in Medfield, Petit Robert Bistro in Needham and Sweet Basil, also in Needham. This event is being held next weekend, Sunday, November 9, 11:30 to 3:30, with proceeds helping to support the Dover Town Library.
And finally, if you like wine (and really, who doesn’t?), The Sherborn Inn and the Sherborn Out are having a wine tasting this Saturday from 2-5 PM. “The Out” has a wine tasting every week but this is a blowout of a wine tasting, featuring over 70 wines! The event is free, and all wine is 20% off…a great time to stock up for the fast approaching holidays (Thanksgiving is in just over three weeks!). The Sherborn Out is probably my favorite local wine store…they have a wonderful selection of wines from around the world…plenty to choose from without being overwhelming. They also offer food to go, including a sinful selection of desserts.
Happy Halloween! I hope to see you at the starting line of the Angel Run on December 7th!
